Symbolism
I chose this photo because its inspiring, just
how Mr.Hadley was. He Tried to help Brinker be
more patriotic and honorable.

Analysis
Mr.Hadley is a very reserved old man, with a
certain wisdom about him. A certain wisdom that
can change your view of the world with. This
wisdom is probably what makes him so drawn to
his patriotism. And that Patriotism is what
makes him want his son to serve in the army so
bad. He feels that serving in the army is the
best thing you can do in life. "You want to
serve, that's all. It's your greatest moment,
greatest privilege, to serve your country. We're
all proud of you, and we're all-old guys like
me-we're darn jealous of you too" (Knowles 200).
His view in life is the old days, he feels that
everything back then was better. Including war,
he says that war has changed and he doesnt like
the new advancements. "I cant imagine any man in
my time settling for duty on a sewing machine. I
cant picture that at all"(Knowles 198)

Theme tie in
Mr.Hadley brings out the best of the war, he
makes fighting sound fun. He glorifies being a
soldier to the point that it sounds like the
best thing in the world.
